Philosophy

SCCA believes that all our members are individuals and have individual goals and aspirations for their success in swimming. Our program is designed based on the idea that kids come to us of all ages, abilities, and desires. We understand that everyone involved with us will grow at different rates and reach their own personal goals at different times. We allow for that natural personal growth at the same time providing the appropriate guidance to assist them in reaching those goals.

We have a "building block" philosophy. We take the time to assess an individual swimmer’s accomplishments and build on those prior experiences in a logical progressive manner. We want every step to be a permanent step forward. We are committed to striking a balance between fun and work. We believe that your child will truly enjoy what they are doing if they are learning and making consistent improvements.

Communication
Please check your swimmer’s file daily and read everything you receive, thoroughly. About 95% of the information we pass on to our membership is in writing. Please read everything you receive thoroughly. Although we do our best to keep everyone as well-informed as possible, it is ultimately the member’s responsibility to stay in touch with their coach and the team’s activities.

Information and updates are provided through these resources:

  • Swimmer’s Files-Every swimmer has a file setup with his/her name on it. These files are located on deck in plastic file boxes. Miscellaneous fliers, ribbons, and forms containing team activities and schedules are placed in these files. Swimmers need to make a habit of checking their file every day.

  • Pacific Swim Guide - New swimmers receive a complimentary swim guide when they join the team. This guide is an excellent resource for swimming information including a schedule of all swim meets held in the Pacific swimming region, standard swim times (B, A, AA, Q, etc.), and swim records. Swimmers may purchase a new swim guide for $2.00 when they re-register for the next year.

  • Parent Handbook - Besides being full of important information, you might not know that this handbook is the result of our one mandatory fund raiser - the Parent Handbook Ad Campaign. Swimmers simply solicit ads, either business or personal, for use in the handbook. The total they collect goes towards the mandatory fee. You might want to consider now which businesses you could approach for this purpose.

  • The Monthly Calendar -The Calendar, distributed monthly and posted on the web site, provides the schedule of activities for the upcoming month.
