Bad Weather leads to cancelled practices...

The crazy "January 2010 Storm" has officially made an impact on our team, with multiple practices already being cancelled, and possibly more to come.

Tuesday, January 19: Lightning storm caused Simpkins to close it's facility for the entire afternoon, causing a practice cancellation.

Wednesday, January 20: The Senior's morning workout was cancelled last minute due to lightning in the nearby area of Soquel High (where AM practices are held). Heavy winds knocked out power throughout Santa Cruz County, including the Live Oak area, where Simpkins is located. There was even a tornado warning for a brief period in the afternoon for Santa Cruz and Santa Clara Counties. For the pool facility, hours without any power leads to chlorine levels thrown off balance, as well as pool temperatures dropping. Conclusion: Afternoon Practice Cancelled.

Here we are today, Thursday the 21st, just past 11:00am, and the heavy winds and rain outside leave us waiting to hear about the pool status again today. For updated information on current practice cancellations, please call 429-SWIM, then press "8". I will leave an up-to-date recording with any news I hear.

The latest I have heard about this storm: Thunder Storms and rain throughout today and tomorrow, a small break over the weekend, and more rain beginning again on Monday.
